One day back in 2016, Greg and I and a two of our friends were playing Beer Pong and it was getting late as in just past 1 AM. I had to head back home leaving three people to continue playing a 2 on 2 Beer Pong game - none of whom were tired. I felt bad for letting the other 3 players down. So, I suggested lining up 3 sets of 5 solo cups in a row, spaced apart, such that all 3 players could line up on one end of the table, each having their own row of 5 cups. The rules were simple: it would be a race - with the first player to make all 5 of their cups being the winner. The quickly improvised solution worked and the other three players were able to continue playing a variation of Beer Pong without needing the 4th player. It was at this precise moment in time, the seed was planted for what would later inspire War Pong.

A few days later, Greg and I talked about how well the new game went and how everyone had a really good time. But, during our conversation, it occurred to us that “we had broken the Beer Pong mold” and tried our first variation of the original game. This shift away from traditional Beer Pong really opened our eyes and the seed grew a little more.
We starting thinking about the game of Beer Pong differently. What really makes Beer Pong fun and exciting to play is the carnival like challenge of throwing a ping pong ball from one end of a table and making it into a cup at the other end of the table. By adding in the challenge of making 10 cups (lined up like pins in bowling) and competing against another player or team is what makes it a game.
As our view of Beer Pong started to evolve, we thought, “Beer Pong really is a little too predictable and stale”. We knew at a gut level that Beer Pong was ready for a change – call it a refresh or a reboot or a redesign. But, the bottom-line is we knew the people who enjoy playing Beer Pong would be ready for something different, something more, something that would be grandeur and a lot more fun than the classic original game everyone loves to play which is over 40 years old now.
So Greg and I began challenging the way the game has traditionally been played as we instinctively knew the world was ready for something different, something even better and as that realization began to really take hold, the seed sprouted and War Pong was born.
